Send Swimlane notifications to Slack

This article explains what the Slack card in Swimlane does today, and how to get useful Slack messages about your contacts with a webhook and n8n or Make.

What the Slack integration does today

The Slack card in Settings → Integrations stores a Slack incoming webhook URL for your organization and checks that it works:

  1. Click Settings at the bottom of the left sidebar, then Integrations.
  2. On the Slack card, click Configure.
  3. Paste a Slack incoming webhook URL in Webhook URL. How to create a webhook opens Slack's guide.
  4. Click Test & Save Integration. Swimlane posts a test message to the channel ("Swimlane integration test - connection successful!") and, if Slack accepts it, saves the URL. The card then shows Connected.

Swimlane sends nothing else to that channel. The card's description mentions notifications when contacts reach high scores, but no such notification is sent today: there is no Slack message for new contacts, replies, accepted invitations or anything else. The date shown under Last sync is the date you last saved the integration.

To stop using it, click Disable on the card.

Get real notifications in Slack

Use a Swimlane webhook and an automation tool to post the messages yourself. Example: a message in #sales each time a contact is created.

With n8n

  1. Build the webhook trigger and the test filter described in Connect Swimlane to n8n, subscribed to Contact Created.
  2. Optionally add an HTTP Request node that calls GET https://api.getswimlane.com/v1/contacts/{{ $json.body.data.uuid }} to get the headline.
  3. Add a Slack node that sends a message to your channel, for example:
New contact: {{ $json.firstName }} {{ $json.lastName }} – {{ $json.headline }}
https://www.linkedin.com/in/{{ $json.linkedinId }}

With Make

  1. Build the Custom webhook trigger and the test filter described in Connect Swimlane to Make.
  2. Optionally add an HTTP Make a request module to read the contact from the API.
  3. Add the Slack app's module that creates a message, and map the fields.

Without an automation tool

A Slack incoming webhook expects a body in Slack's own format (a text field). Swimlane's webhook body has a different shape, so pasting a Slack URL directly into Settings → Webhooks won't post readable messages. Put n8n, Make or a small endpoint of your own in between.

Which events can trigger a Slack message

Only the three webhook events: Contact Created, Contact Updated and Contact Deleted (see Set up webhooks). Replies, messages, tags and pipeline moves don't send webhooks, so they can't trigger a message directly.

For a tag-based alert (for example "a rep tagged someone as Hot lead"), run a scheduled workflow that reads GET /v1/contacts?tag_id=… and posts the contacts it finds, then swaps the tag so they aren't posted twice. The recipe is in Connect Swimlane to n8n.

Good to know

  • contact.updated can be frequent. It also fires when an import or the inbox sync refreshes an existing contact, for example a new profile photo. Don't post every update to a busy channel.
  • One webhook for the team. Each member's webhooks receive the whole organization's events: create the Slack webhook from one account, or messages will be duplicated.
  • For a team activity summary, the email digest already exists (see The team digest: daily recap and weekly report).
