Write faster with the AI draft

When a contact is waiting for your answer, Swimlane can prepare a short reply for you. The draft has read the conversation, knows what you noted about the contact and writes in your style. You decide whether to use it.

When a draft appears

Swimlane prepares a draft automatically when you open a conversation where all of these are true:

  • the contact sent the last message
  • that message is longer than 32 characters (a simple Thanks! doesn't get a draft)
  • both of you have already written in the conversation

While the draft is being prepared, Writing… shows in the message field. The draft then appears in grey in the empty field. If the AI finds nothing useful to say, no draft appears.

Use the draft

  1. Read the grey draft in the message field.
  2. To keep it:
    • on a computer, use the keyboard shortcut shown in the hint under the draft
    • on a phone or tablet, tap Accept
  3. The text moves into the field as normal text. Edit it as much as you like.
  4. Click Send.

To ignore the draft, press Escape or just start typing your own message: the draft disappears. It comes back the next time the contact sends a new message.

What the draft is based on

  • The conversation: up to the 16 most recent text messages, read from oldest to newest.
  • The contact: name and headline.
  • The Swimlane Analysis: the summary, the recommended next step, the confidence score and the suggested follow-up date (see Understand the AI contact analysis).
  • Your notes on the contact.
  • Your pending reminders on this contact, which the AI treats as your goals.
  • Your context from Settings → Personalization: about yourself, your business, your ideal customer and how you help.
  • Your writing style, learned from the messages you write (see How Swimlane learns your writing style).

How it writes

  • In the first person, as you, and in your interest: it answers objections and moves the conversation toward your next step, while staying respectful.
  • In the language, tone and level of formality of the conversation.
  • Very short: one or two sentences, with no greeting line and no signature.
  • Without inventing facts. When it lacks context, it stays silent rather than guess.

Good to know

  • Nothing is sent without you. The draft only fills the field once you accept it.
  • One draft per new message. Reopening the same conversation shows the same draft. A new message from the contact produces a new one.
  • Better input, better drafts. Keep your notes and reminders up to date and fill in Settings → Personalization. There is no separate tone-of-voice setting: your style is learned from what you write.
  • Drafts you send unchanged don't train your style. Swimlane only learns from text you wrote or edited yourself.
  • Images, voice messages and files in the conversation aren't read by the AI. Only text is.
  • First message to someone? That's a different suggestion: see Start a conversation with an AI icebreaker.
