What is Swimlane? How the product fits together

Swimlane is a CRM that lives in your LinkedIn inbox. It connects to your LinkedIn account, brings your conversations into one place, turns every person you talk to into a contact, and adds what you need around those conversations: finding the right people, organising them, following deals and automating repetitive outreach.

This article gives you the big picture so every page makes sense.

The flow in one sentence

You source people into lists, talk to them from the inbox, track the promising ones in a pipeline, and let campaigns handle the repetitive first touches and follow-ups.

1. Sources: bring the right people in

Contacts reach Swimlane in three ways:

  • Your own conversations. Once LinkedIn is connected, everyone you exchange messages with becomes a contact automatically. There is nothing to import.
  • Find new leads, at the top of the Dashboard. People Search lets you describe a persona: AI writes the job-title variants and exclusions, runs the LinkedIn search and scores each profile before you pick who to import. Thematic Posts finds the authors of posts about a topic, and Lead Magnet Hunters finds the authors of posts that give away a resource in exchange for a comment.
  • New Import, on the Lists page: people who engaged with a LinkedIn post, your profile visitors, a CSV file, and recurring imports that keep feeding a list over time (new commenters, new profile visitors, LinkedIn suggestions, a competitor's audience).

Every import lands in a list. Daily ceilings protect your LinkedIn account, and you can see them in Settings → Usage (see Check your daily usage).

2. Contacts and lists: your CRM

The Lists page shows your lists and an All Leads row with every contact. A contact record carries the LinkedIn profile, headline, company and connection degree, plus your tags, notes and reminders. Activity is logged for you: invitations sent and accepted, messages, replies and clicks on tracked links.

When you describe an ideal customer in a campaign, each contact gets an ICP fit level from Very low to Excellent. Swimlane never shows a score out of 100.

3. Inbox: where the work happens

Inbox gathers your LinkedIn conversations. Views let you focus on what needs an answer, and you can work a thread without leaving it: notes, tags, reminders, message templates, an AI-drafted reply written in your tone of voice, and an AI analysis of the contact. The inbox sidebar also holds your sent, received and declined invitations, plus one view per tag and per pipeline.

4. Pipelines: follow deals

Pipelines are kanban boards. You create as many as you need, name the stages, and move contacts across them. A stage can be marked as done or abandoned, so closed contacts stop resurfacing in suggestions. You can also send an invitation or a message to a whole column at once.

5. Campaigns: automate the repetitive part

Campaigns run a sequence for a set of contacts: connection request (with its own wait for acceptance), send message, like their last post, poke, add or remove a tag, and conditions (if connected, replied to message, viewed profile, has a conversation). Each step has its own delay in days. The audience comes from a list, or from all your contacts, and can be narrowed with an ICP floor. New contacts that match are enrolled as they arrive.

A sequence does not stop by itself when someone replies: add a Replied to message condition where you want the flow to branch.

Automated actions stay within your daily limits, are spaced out at random intervals and, once you have set virtual office hours, only run within them.

Where things live

  • Dashboard: what to do today and ways to find new leads (see A tour of the dashboard).
  • Inbox, Lists, Pipelines, Campaigns: the four main areas above.
  • Queue (rocket icon at the bottom of the sidebar): what Swimlane is doing in the background (see Follow background tasks in the Queue panel).
  • Settings: your personalization, usage, limits, office hours, team, subscription and account.
  • Help: this help center.

What Swimlane does not do

  • It does not publish or schedule LinkedIn posts, and does not write comments for you.
  • It does not send emails or run multichannel sequences: everything happens on LinkedIn.
  • It does not use a Chrome extension. The connection is a secure LinkedIn login (see Connect your LinkedIn account).
