Send images and GIFs

Add a picture, a screenshot or a GIF to a LinkedIn message from the Swimlane composer. You can send them alone or with text.

Before you start

  • The conversation must already exist. Images and GIFs can't go in the very first message you send to someone (see Good to know).

Send an image

  1. Open the conversation from Inbox → Messaging.
  2. Click the image icon, the first icon in the toolbar under the message field.
  3. Select one or more images on your computer or phone. A thumbnail appears next to the field for each one.
  4. To remove an image before sending, hover its thumbnail and click the ×.
  5. Optional: type a message to go with the images.
  6. Click Send.

Send a GIF

  1. In the conversation, click the GIF icon.
  2. The Select a GIF window opens with trending GIFs. Type in the Search KLIPY field to find something specific.
  3. Click a GIF. It's added to your message like an image.
  4. Optional: add text, then click Send.

Add an emoji to your text

Click the smiley icon to open a short bar of emojis (the ones you use most often) and click one to insert it where your cursor is. The button at the end of the bar opens the full emoji picker, with a search field.

Good to know

  • Accepted formats: JPG, JPEG, PNG, GIF and WebP.
  • Size: up to 10 MB per image. Larger files are refused.
  • Several images at once: you can attach more than one. If a message with several large images fails, send them in separate messages.
  • Files and voice notes can't be sent. The file picker only offers images, and there is no voice recording in the composer.
  • What you receive is displayed. When a contact sends you a video, a voice message or a file, you can play it or download it (Download file) directly in the conversation.
  • First message: text only. If you attach an image to the first message you send to a contact, nothing is sent, not even the text. Send your text first, then send the image once the conversation exists.
  • Limits apply. A message with images counts toward your Daily Messages Sent ceiling like any other message.
  • Your preview appears right away. If LinkedIn refuses the message, it disappears from the conversation and an error message is shown.

Troubleshooting

  • The image doesn't show in the thumbnails. Check the file is an image. Other file types are ignored.
  • "Failed to send message" after adding images: check the format and size above, then try again with fewer or smaller images.
