Reconnect LinkedIn when the session expires

Swimlane acts on LinkedIn through a session opened when you signed in. LinkedIn can end that session at any time. When it does, Swimlane asks you to sign in to LinkedIn again. Reconnecting takes about two minutes and keeps all your data.

How you notice

  • Swimlane flags the session as expired as soon as LinkedIn refuses one of its requests, whether that request came from you or from a background task.
  • While Swimlane is open in an active tab, it re-checks the connection about every 15 seconds. When the session is flagged, you are taken to the Connect your LinkedIn screen.
  • Every page stays blocked until you reconnect, except Settings.
  • Swimlane does not send an email when this happens. You find out the next time you open the app, which is one more reason to open it every day.

Why a session ends

LinkedIn decides when a session stops being valid, and Swimlane cannot prevent it. It can happen, for example, after a LinkedIn security check or if you sign out of all your sessions from LinkedIn's settings.

Steps

  1. On the Connect your LinkedIn screen, click Connect your LinkedIn account.
  2. In the Connect LinkedIn window, enter the email and password of the same LinkedIn account as before, then click Connect.
  3. Complete the verification if LinkedIn asks for one: approve the sign-in in the LinkedIn app, or type the code and click Verify.
  4. When Account Connected appears, the window closes and you are back in Swimlane.

Skip for now does not get you into the app: without a valid session, Swimlane brings you back to this screen.

What stops while you are disconnected

Everything that needs LinkedIn waits for a valid session:

  • syncing the inbox and sending messages;
  • campaign steps (connection requests, messages, likes, pokes) and the checks that detect accepted invitations;
  • imports and lead searches, including recurring imports;
  • accepting or ignoring received invitations.

Your data is not affected: contacts, lists, pipelines, tags, notes, reminders and campaigns stay exactly as they were.

Actions that tried to run during the outage are retried a few times, then marked as failed. For an import, its list shows the Error status. The sooner you reconnect, the less work fails.

Good to know

  • Reconnecting from this screen updates your existing connection. Your conversations, contacts and campaign progress are kept.
  • Do not use Disconnect LinkedIn in Settings → General to fix an expired session. Disconnecting removes the connection itself, and with it the conversation list and LinkedIn details Swimlane had stored for it. Reconnecting from the prompt is enough.
  • After reconnecting, open the Queue panel (rocket icon at the bottom of the sidebar) to spot tasks that failed while you were away. See Follow background tasks in the Queue panel.

Troubleshooting

If the sign-in itself fails (wrong password, missing verification code, notification that never arrives, expired window), follow the Troubleshooting section of Connect your LinkedIn account.
