Follow up with people who comment on your posts
People who comment on your LinkedIn posts have already shown interest. This guide connects two features: a recurring import that keeps collecting your commenters into a list, and a campaign on that list that messages your connections and invites the others.
Before you start
- Your LinkedIn account is connected.
- You have published the post you want to follow up on, and you have its URL (open the post on LinkedIn and copy the address).
Steps
1. Collect the commenters automatically
- Click Lists in the left navigation, then New Import.
- Open the Recurring Imports tab.
- Click Auto Post Engagement.
- Paste the post address in LinkedIn post URL.
- Click Start Recurring Import.
Swimlane creates a list named Post Engagement Import and runs the first import shortly after. It then imports the post's new commenters again every 2 to 4 hours, at random times. People already in the list aren't added twice.
2. Create the campaign on that list
- Open Campaigns, click New Campaign, then Outbound Campaign.
- Campaign: name it, for example Commenters – pricing post. Leave Only new arrivals off to include the people who have already commented, or turn it on to reach only the commenters who arrive from now on.
- Audience: under List, pick Post Engagement Import.
- Flow Builder: build this flow.
- If connected, no delay.
- On Yes: Send Message, no delay. For example: Hi {{firstName}}, thanks for your comment on my post. Happy to share more on the topic if it's useful to you.
- On No: Connection Request, no delay, with a short Connection Note such as Hi {{firstName}}, thanks for commenting on my post, glad to connect. Set Wait for acceptance to 14 days.
- Under Accepted: Send Message with a 1-day delay. For example: Thanks for connecting, {{firstName}}. I saw your comment on my post: what's your take on it at your company?
- Optional, after each message: Replied to message with a 5-day delay and Last 7 days. On Yes, Add tag Replied, so you can find these people easily.
- Review: check the flow, then click Launch Campaign.
From now on, every new commenter imported into the list enters the campaign shortly after.
Good to know
- Connection degree. Auto Post Engagement records a commenter's degree when LinkedIn shows it next to the comment. A commenter whose degree is unknown goes to No on If connected, then leaves the campaign at the connection request without being invited. If that happens to people you care about, use Enrich with LinkedIn on the list.
- Auto Profile Engagement, in the same Recurring Imports tab, imports the commenters of your 5 most recent posts without asking for a URL, into a list named Profile Engagement Import. It doesn't record the commenters' connection degree: enrich the contacts with LinkedIn before they reach a connection request, or use a flow that only messages people on the Yes branch of If connected.
- One import per post. Repeat step 1 for each post you want to follow. Each recurring import creates its own list, so each needs its own campaign.
- Only commenters. These imports bring in the people who commented, not the people who only reacted.
- Replies don't stop the sequence. Branch on Replied to message as shown above (see Campaign conditions and branches).
- Limits apply. Imports count against your daily import limit and wait for your office hours. Invitations and messages count against your daily limits (see Daily limits and Safe Mode).
- Nothing is sent without the campaign. The import only fills the list. No message leaves before you launch a campaign on it.
