Campaign conditions and branches
Conditions let a campaign treat contacts differently depending on what they did. Each condition asks one question and sends the contact down its Yes or No branch.
Add a condition
- In the Flow Builder, click the + where the question should be asked.
- Under Conditions, click one of the four cards: If connected, Has a conversation, Replied to message or Viewed profile.
- In the settings, set Delay before this step if the check should wait (for example 7 days after a message), and choose a Time window when the condition offers one. The Continue if lead has... menu lets you switch to another condition later.
- Add steps under Yes and under No with their + buttons. A branch you leave empty simply ends.
The four conditions
If connected
Yes if the contact is a 1st-degree connection on your LinkedIn account, according to what Swimlane last recorded, whether they accepted an invitation from this campaign or were connected before. A contact whose degree Swimlane doesn't know goes to No. This condition has no time window.
Has a conversation
Yes if your conversation with the contact contains at least one message sent by you within the time window. Messages written only by the contact don't count. Messages already sent by the campaign itself do count, so this condition is most useful before your first message, to leave out people you're already talking to.
Replied to message
Yes if your conversation contains at least one message from the contact within the time window. Any message from them counts, not only an answer to the campaign: with Any time, someone who wrote to you months ago is a Yes. Choose a recent window to catch real replies.
Viewed profile
Yes if Swimlane has recorded a visit from this contact to your LinkedIn profile within the time window. Visits are recorded when your profile visitors are imported, manually or with a recurring import, so this condition only knows about visits you have imported.
Time windows
Has a conversation, Replied to message and Viewed profile offer a Time window: Any time (the default), Today, Last 7 days, Last 14 days or Last 28 days. The window counts back from the moment the condition is checked. If connected has no window.
How conditions are evaluated
- Once. A condition is checked a single time, when the contact reaches it and its delay has passed. It doesn't wait for something to happen. To give someone a week to reply, put a 7-day delay on the Replied to message step.
- Again before a message. Just before a Send Message step sends, Swimlane re-checks every condition on the path that led to it. If one now gives the other answer, the message isn't sent and the contact continues on the other branch.
- No when in doubt. If Swimlane can't read the conversation, Has a conversation and Replied to message answer No.
How branches work
- A condition has two outlets, Yes on the left and No on the right. A Connection Request also branches, into Accepted and Not accepted (see Campaign steps reference).
- Each outlet leads to its own steps and ends with its own End of sequence. Branches never join again: if both need the same last step, add it on both.
- Adding a condition in the middle of a flow moves the steps that followed onto its Yes branch. The No branch starts empty.
- Deleting a condition deletes both of its branches.
Examples
- Leave out people you already talk to: Has a conversation with Last 28 days. On No, your first message. On Yes, nothing.
- Follow up only on silence: Send Message, then Replied to message with a 5-day delay and Last 7 days. On No, a second message. On Yes, Add tag with a tag such as Replied.
- Message your connections, invite the others: If connected. On Yes, Send Message. On No, Connection Request, then on Accepted, Send Message. Enrich the contacts with LinkedIn first: a contact whose degree is unknown goes to No, and then leaves the campaign at the connection request.
